Sintered Alnico Magnet

Introduction

The cast Alnico magnet can be with variety of complex shape and size dimension for better cost saving. The Alnico magnet is good at corrosion resistance and with excellent temperature stability. It is ideal for high temperature, chemical and aerospace applications.

Alnico magnets were invented in the 1930s, the early stage of the permanent magnet industry. Since the progression of metallurgy and electronic engineering, the applications and consumption of alnico have been gradually declining.

However, based on its superior corrosion resistance and a high operating temperature ranging from 450°C to 550°C, alnico still has its place in chemical, aerospace, and defense industries which require extreme environmental tolerance. Alnico also has a design advantage of intricate geometries which can be combined with plastic or other metal parts for various applications.

Through different manufacturing processes—casting and sintering—there are two kinds of alnico. Although the sintered alnico has less performance and lower temperature resistance than the cast one, it is easier to machine which is suitable for lighter and finer designs within smaller size tolerances.
