Samarium Cobalt SmCo5 / SM2Co17
Announcement: Supply Update for Samarium–Cobalt Series
Due to raw‑material export restrictions, the entire samarium-cobalt (SmCo) product series is currently suspended from shipment. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.
No matter your requirements, please feel free to contact us - we will assist with alternative magnetic material evaluation and help plan the most suitable magnet solution for your project.
Introduction
Samarium Cobalt magnets, also called SmCo magnets, have two alloy varieties — SmCo5 and Sm2Co17—which offer superior temperature resistance in the range of 250°C to 350°C. With better corrosion resistance than NdFeB magnets, for most applications, an additional coating for protection is not required.
Meanwhile, the (BH)max of SmCo magnets can approximate to 29MGOe which is close to the strength of NdFeB magnets. Based on not only its exceptional resistance to heat and corrosion but also the adequate magnetic energy, SmCo magnets play an important role in both defense and aerospace industries.
Features
• Stable performance in high-temperature environments
• Capable of complex machining for precision applications
• High magnetic energy product, comparable to sintered neodymium iron boron magnets
• Inherent corrosion resistance in the magnet material
• Relatively brittle; can be coated to prevent brittle fracture
• Rare earth material, hence higher cost
Operating Temperature
0°C~350°C
Applications
• Aerospace and aviation
• Military components
• Medical surgery
• Fluid machinery
• Microwave devices
• Axial seal pumps
• Ignition coils
